Description
The Old Rectory Hotel is idyllically situated in a secluded hollow surrounded by National Trust land, high on the cliffs of Exmoor National Park. Originally the Georgian Rectory to the 11th century church in the Exmoor hamlet of Martinhoe, the house is today a friendly, relaxed and civilised country house retreat where tranquillity, good food, wine and great hospitality are the order of the day. There are many delightful walks to local beauty spots including Woody Bay and Heddon´s Mouth. You can also visit the Valley of the Rocks, Watersmeet and the unique cliff railway from Lynton to Lynmouth, with its picturesque harbour.
Bird watching, fishing and horse riding can all be enjoyed in the vicinity and there is access from the end of the hotel’s garden to the Coastal Path with majestic views of the highest hog-backed cliffs in Britain and across the Bristol Channel towards Wales. With some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in England right on our doorstep, from National Trust properties and RHS Gardens to extreme sports, castles & beaches, Exmoor and North Devon has something for everyone. We hope you will come and see us soon.
The Old Rectory Hotel has been sensitively and stylishly refurbished to retain the original integrity of the house whilst offering all modern day comforts. We like our guests to make themselves at home by perhaps relaxing in the Drawing Room and Sitting Room, or watching the abundant wildlife out in the garden from under the 200-year-old grapevine in the Vinery. Please feel free to borrow a book from our library or surf the internet on our public computer. There is complimentary wi-fi throughout the hotel.
The eight en-suite bedrooms at The Old Rectory Hotel are all individually and stylishly appointed with large comfortable beds and sparkling bathrooms. Two are on the ground floor and one has a balcony with views of the garden towards the trout pond where deer and ducks can often be seen. We have two luxurious suites – one with distant views of the Atlantic, the other with a magnificent view over our lovely three-acre garden, which has a Victorian maze and is full of scent and birdsong, with the sound of a babbling brook cascading down small waterfalls.
